A Virtual Edition of our Business Symposium

Updated: Dec 13, 2020

I started out this week by continuing to connect with professionals on LinkedIn. I was able to message two professionals who expressed their willingness to be interviewed, and I’m very excited to be interviewing them over the next couple of weeks! This week was also the week of our virtual business symposium, and although I had done the symposium last year, I was nonetheless slightly nervous about being asked interview questions. As I spoke with the professionals, my comfortability rose, and I could feel my confidence improving. I enjoyed speaking with each one of them, and I know that it was such a beneficial experience to grow and learn from. I improved upon my communication and interview skills, and I gained insight into the skills necessary to be a successful young professional. Ms. Jennifer Wood, for example, spoke with me about the importance of taking initiative and problem-solving in the workplace. She said that many new young professionals lack the ability to speak out confidently, but it’s important to always be asking questions and pitching new ideas, even if they get shut down. Ms. Newly Guajardo spoke with me about the importance of maintaining a balance between school and personal life, which was definitely reassuring, especially as I manage school and college applications.
