The Independent Study and Mentorship or ISM program is a rigorous course for ambitious, high-achieving high school students looking to expand their knowledge in a career topic of choice. Students are given the opportunity to conduct independent research and shadow a professional in their field, allowing them to gain real-world work experience. After students conduct research, they produce a final product that encapsulates the knowledge they have gained over the course.
To earn admittance into the course, students are required to go through a detailed application process that requires teacher recommendations, an essay, and an interview.
ISM is truly such a beneficial course unlike any other elective offered in the district. Students gain effective research and interpersonal speaking skills in a professional environment in order to ultimately be prepared and successful in the future.
