“Do I Really Sound Like That?”

Although this week was mainly spent on my Original Work as the deadline is fast approaching, I was also able to edit my board design for showcase night and watch back over my research speech from before Thanksgiving break. Since our research speeches were recorded, we were all able to watch them back in order to do a self-assessment over the strengths and weaknesses we found in our presentations. I feel like a lot of people can say the same when I say that I was dreading watching it. The feeling of watching yourself back, analyzing your every mistake and asking yourself, “Do I really sound like that,” does not make for a pleasant experience. But it was definitely worth it as I was able to pick up on a lot of bad habits that I would not have noticed had I not watched the video back. For example, I didn’t notice the number of times I said the word “um” or the number of times my voice faded out at the end of a sentence. Along with this, I also was able to make a lot of edits to my showcase night board design. Coach Goff told us about the importance of limiting the text we put on our boards because if there are more pictures and visuals, our setup is more appealing and easy to follow.
