Although I have completed my primary research interviews and now have two wonderful mentors, I still feel that it is very beneficial to continue conducting interviews with professionals as it is such a great way to learn more about my topic and work on different soft skills. I had the amazing opportunity of interviewing Ms. Belinda Marshall, Chief Financial Officer of the Make-A-Wish North Texas Division, last Monday over the phone. She was familiar with the ISM program because her daughter took it, and she mentioned how it is such a great way for high school students to explore a career field of their interest and work on real-world communication skills. I then went into asking her the research questions I had about her personal job responsibilities and the nonprofit space in general. She gave me so much valuable insight about nonprofit topics such as the responsibility individual donors have and the importance of managing company finances and budgets. This week I also worked a lot of my preparation for my Original Work speech as I worked on making changes to my previous research speech presentation. My speech is this week, and although I am definitely a little nervous for it, I am excited to share what I have learned through my Original Work. I feel like these speeches are getting a lot easier to do as I get more comfortable with presenting and talking about my topic.
